Troopers: Deer on highway leads to fatal crash

Posted: Updated:

PITTSBURG COUNTY, Okla. -- Oklahoma State Troopers said a McAlester woman died on a Pittsburg County highway Tuesday morning after swerving to avoid a deer.

Investigators said 36-year-old Lacey Hill was driving a pickup truck on State Highway 31 one mile west of Haywood when she encountered a deer on the road shortly before 9 a.m. Her truck hit a four-foot ditch and crashed.

Hill was trapped in the wreckage and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said she was not wearing a seat belt.

A juvenile passenger in the truck who was wearing a restraint was not injured, investigators said.
