DENISON, Texas -- Earlier this month, the City of Denison met with some churches on their plan to help the city's homeless.

Now the city is waiting on the organizations to decide what they want.

Members of the Homeless Empowerment Action Team -- HEAT -- believe there is a misunderstanding between their group and the city.

"We don't want to attract any more homeless either; that's not the goal of HEAT," said board member Micah Blevins. "We're trying to empower, not enable, but there is a current homeless problem."

Waples Church currently provides showers for those who want them, but it's becoming too much of a burden for one organization.

"We have from any week 30 to 45 that want to shower," Blevins said. "Right now, we're running it out of a Sunday school hall with one shower, and it's just hard on the church. It's hard on one person to try and do it."

HEAT is currently in the process of figuring out what their next step is, because they know they must do something about homelessness.

"If the issue is not addressed, it's going to compound and get bigger," Blevins said. "They're not going away. If you walked down Main Street after 10 p.m.,  some people would be scared."

Blevins said his group may call another meeting with the city, but they're still moving forward.
