LOVE COUNTY, Okla. -- For volunteer fire departments across the nation, finding money to keep things running seems to be the biggest issue.

And for the Lake Murray Village Volunteer Fire Department, it's no different.

"We get limited funds from the state, and and just a limited amount of money from the county... not enough to survive," said Chief Bryan Rieck. "We survive off fundraisers."

In an effort to bring in more money, the second annual Lake Murray Fall Classic will tee off this Saturday. Vernon Ritter organizes the event, and said it's his way of showing appreciation for these first repsonders.

"My wife and I came up with a way to give back to the Lake Murray Volunteer Fire Department," he said. "They work hard and do everything they can."

Funds from this year's tournament will go toward the department's vehicles, and making sure everything keeps running smoothly.

"We just purchased a new rescue truck, so that'll help offset some of the cost for that," Rieck said.

This is one of the two big fundraisers the fire department puts on every year. In the spring they host a fish fry, but donations are always welcome.

"Any time they can call us," the chief said. "We have a Facebook page, they can get a hold of us there. If they want to meet up here, if they want to just donate water, they can just drop it off at the station."

The Fall Classic tees off at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lake Murray Golf Course.
