DENISON, Texas -- Denison's homeless population was scheduled to be a topic of conversation at the regular City Council meeting on Monday evening.

A group called Homeless Empowerment Action Team -- HEAT -- wants to provide homeless people with a centralized hub for help.

Members of a dozen church congregations formed HEAT, hoping their efforts can boost resources while reducing misuse.

"Help us all get off the street and have a home, safe," appealed homeless person Tamara Herrick. "At least build more shelters so people of all ages can come in."

HEAT has proposed three locations in Denison for their homeless hub project. The City Council's staff recommended approval of a resolution to give clear guidance to HEAT and other resource providers regarding the ongoing problem.
