SHERMAN, Texas -- Gunfire in a Sherman neighborhood early Saturday morning ended with a 65-year-old woman in critical condition.

Police said the gunman, identified as 49-year-old Clifton Drake of Round Rock, left the scene of the crime in the 3000 block of Anthony Drive, but later returned. Police gave chase, following Drake west on US 82, then turning back to the city.

Drake's vehicle was finally stopped on US 75 and he was taken into custody facing charges that include aggravated assault and evading arrest.

"The suspect was the victim's former stepson," police spokesman Sgt. Brett Mullen said. "The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and is currently still in critical condition."
