SHERMAN, Texas -- Progressive Baptist Church in Sherman has had themed Sundays to attract new members and grow their church.

Janet Hudson, a member since 1945, enjoys reaching out to the community.

"It's been 'friends and family day.' We've invited our employees to come to church, our neighbors and just everybody," she said.

They even take it outside of the church to get to know those who joined them that Sunday.

"Picnic at the Center Street Park today. Next week Sunday will be invite-your-neighbor... who is your neighbor? As of today we have 47 new members since last year this time," said congregant Tamra Rucker. "They all say they feel like this is home, and they're looking for a church home, and we welcome them in. And once they're welcomed in, we have our new members class."

Rucker added that her church is growing, and the main focus is loving those in the community.

"Our church is a loving church; we'll take you in and love you," she said. "We're just a church on the move; we don't judge, we just love everybody."
