Voters OK school bond issues in Durant, Madill

School districts in Durant and Madill got a green light from voters Tuesday on bond issues.

In Durant, both proposals that were part of a $48.6 million bond issue won overwhelming approval. Seventy percent of voters said "yes" to the plan to build a new elementary school, while 61 percent gave a thumbs-up to fund transportation needs, security, maintenance, technology, athletics, fine arts and extracurricular programs.

In Madill, a $15.5 million school bond to expand classrooms and build an event center won with a 74 percent approval margin.
