ARDMORE, Okla. -- Ardmore's two dams are getting an inspection.

Mountain Lake Dam and City Lake Dam are both around 100 years old. City of Ardmore Commissioners approved a $1.8 million assessment to see what fixes are needed.

"We know we have a couple of leaks on the City Lake Dam," said utilities director Shawn Geurin. "They're small leaks, but they are leaks... they need to be addressed."

The review comes with a detailed inspection of the dams, which have seen some wear.

"We're also going to have the gates looked at on Mountain Lake Dam," Geurin said. "It's a lot of money. We appreciate the support we've received from the Council and city manager on this. It'll be money well spent; it'll get us further down the road."

The project is expected to start within 30 days and take about 10 months to complete.

"This is going to be a lot of engineers, a lot of testing companies coming out and testing concrete," Geurin said. "They're going to be looking at the dams, looking at what's inside the dams."
