SHERMAN, Texas -- The City of Sherman has donated property for the future home of a family in need.

The plot, just off 1st Street, is in a neighborhood of redevelopment homes. Habitat for Humanity of Grayson County has plans to build a new home there.

This is the first time Sherman has donated property to the Habitat campaign.

"We are so grateful that they took the time to research the deed carefully and to make sure that the lot was clear and clean of any encumbrances, and was able to donate that lot to us so that we can put a family in that home," said Habitat for Humanity executive director Laurie Mealy.

Habitat hopes to get the house built and place a family in it within the next year
