DENISON, Texas -- A home and attached shop in Denison were destroyed by fire on Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters got the call for help around 1:30 p.m. from the 4700 block of FM 84.

Homeowner Randell Hendricks said someone passing by knocked on the door to let him know his house was on fire.

"I can't imagine what might have happened if they hadn't have stopped," Hendricks said. "I may be sitting in there overcome by smoke and not realizing what was going on... or worse, my dog or something like that."

The homeowner and his dog got out safely, but the home and shop were a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Hendricks said he had lived in the home for six years, and that his work truck was parked inside the shop.

"We're out here. It's hot, but we're under the sunshine and we'll be all right," he said.
