MADILL, Okla. -- A suspicious blue plastic box triggered an alert at the Walmart store in Madill on Wednesday morning.

A section of the parking lot and several entrances to the store at 1100 South 1st Street were closed as a precaution.

"We decided to go ahead and take the safe precaution and call the OHP bomb squad," said Madill police spokesman Donny Raley.

After members of the team donned protective gear, a robot made initial contact with the box in the parking lot as bystanders were kept at a safe distance.

Raley said there was no explosive material discovered in the box.

"Inside the tote we found a trash bag full of drug paraphernalia and some other things that we will take back to the office and have it tested," he said.

After recent events across the country involving Walmart, Raley credited employees for protecting their customers.

No suspect has been identified. Investigators were taking a closer look at surveillance footage which appears to provide images of a person of interest.
