DENISON, Texas -- A Denison convenience store was robbed late Tuesday night less than half a mile from police headquarters.

Investigators said the suspect entered the Shell Food Mart at 401 East Main Street and attempted to produce a weapon, but failed to do so.

The store clerk was hit in the shoulder, and surveillance video shows the suspect fleeing with the cash register drawer.

"There's a tower with lottery tickets, he hits the clerk in the shoulder, which is by the cash drawer, and then takes off of the store," Lt. Mike Eppler said.

The suspect was last seen wearing a red hoodie. K-9 units from both the Denison and Sherman police departments checked the area, but they weren't able to pick up a scent.

The investigation continues.
