ADA, Okla. -- Everybody's talking about the new set of wheels at the Ada Police Department.

They acquired the mine resistant ambush protected vehicle (MRAP) through a special federal program that gives communities access to military surplus equipment.

The $800,000 vehicle was acquired by APD for just $2,500, raised by donations.

Along with police business, the heavily-armored vehicle could be used to help other law enforcement agencies.

"We're also looking into the possibility of using this vehicle with the fire department, EMS, in things such as high water rescues when we have flooding in our area," said police Capt. Jason Potter.

He added that the next step is to train officers to use the vehicle.
