Child killed in Pushmataha County crash

PUSHMATAHA COUNTY, Okla. -- A 7-year-old girl died Thursday morning after the car she was riding in was involved in a crash near Clayton.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said an SUV slowed down on Sardis Lake Road just north of Clayton to help someone who was standing on the side of the pavement after an accident around 7:45 a.m..

A PT Cruiser struck the SUV from behind. The girl who died was a passenger in the PT Cruiser. The driver and two other children in that car and the driver and a child in the SUV were not hurt.

Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the crash and whether the victim had been in a child restraint.
