DURANT, Okla. -- Durant City Manager Tim Rundel will resign at the end of this week.

The decision, announced at a special City Council meeting on Tuesday evening, caught Rundel off-guard.

Rundel said Mayor Oden Grube called him late Monday and said she felt it would be best for the city if Rundel left his post voluntarily before his contract with the city expires in December.

The city manager said Grube told him it wasn't personal and that he had done nothing wrong.

They mutually agreed to a separation agreement which will see Rundel being paid for the balance of his contract.

The Council is scheduled to appoint an interim city manager on Friday morning while a search continues for Rundel's permanent successor.

Rundel, a native of Woodward, Oklahoma, has been Durant's city manager since 2016 after being selected from more than 30 candidates.

He announced in June that he would not renew his contract, and pledged to help the city make a smooth transition. The City Council hired an executive search firm to assist in its decision.
