DENISON, Texas -- Don't let the kids complain about having "nothing to do" this summer. The Boys & Girls Club of Denison provides activities every day during school break for kids and young teens to get involved.

On Tuesday, youngsters learned about lawn mowing and operating outdoor power equipment.

"So they can have opportunities to earn money and stuff during the summers," explained club director Ron Nixon. "For some it becomes a career movement and it teaches them discipline, building relationships, being leaders, and -- obviously -- making money for them or their family."

"At our age, we're too young to get like actual jobs, so you can make money off of these jobs," said club member Xaeavien Sims. "I mean, pushing lawn mowers? Easy money!"

Nixon adds there are plenty of field trips and other opportunities to learn about outdoor activities.

"We're doing different opportunities from arts and crafts," he said. "Obviously, we have great field trips. We learn about different themes each week for our kids."

The Boys & Girls Club of Denison also has basketball games every Tuesday, and they're open to the public.
