ARDMORE, Okla. -- Prepare to feast if you're in the vicinity of downtown Ardmore this weekend: It's time for the 6th annual Valero United Way BBQ  Showdown.

"We have teams come in from all over the country, mainly from the Gulf Coast," Valero spokeswoman Sara Donaho Jones said. "This year we've got 40 teams that have come in."

Barbecue is not the only food on display during this two-day event.

"[On Friday night] they're going to cook Cajun food, and [Saturday] is the BBQ Showdown where they're actually turning in judged meats," Jones said.

The Showdown is fun and family-friendly, and visitors can eat as much food as they want. There's even a discount for kids 9 and under; they get in for half of the $10 adult price.

"Not only can they eat all that they want, but they also get free face painting and snow cones," Jones said.

All of the proceeds collected by the showdown go towards the United Way of South Central Oklahoma, supporting 37 partner agencies.

The Showdown in downtown Ardmore is on Broadway at Washington Street. Friday's event continues through 10 p.m., and runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.
