MILBURN, Okla. -- The death of a three-month-old infant has led to murder charges against his parents, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

Christopher Wayne Hairell and Lindsay Allene Wolff  of Milburn have been booked into the Johnston County Jail. Bond was set at $1 million each.

Investigators say the infant was taken to Mercy Hospital in Tishomingo on July 2 with life-threatening injuries. He was later airlifted to Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City for treatment, but the child died on Saturday evening.

Hairell, 35, and Wolff, 33, were initially arrested on child abuse charges.

“The death of the child resulted in complaints of first degree murder being filed with the district attorney on both parents due to the fact that the child died as a result of child abuse, which in this instance was aggravated," Johnston County Sheriff Jon Smith said in a written statement, adding that there were reports that both parents were under the influence of marijuana and methamphetamine when the child was injured.

"This child was a baby -- completely innocent, totally defenseless -- who became the brunt of someone else’s drug-induced anger," Smith said.

Hairell and Wolff are expected to make an initial appearance in Johnston County District Court later this week, the sheriff said.
