DURANT, Okla. -- Uber is recognized as a go-to choice for getting from Point A to Point B in most U.S. cities, but the impact of the ride-sharing service has been negligible in Texoma.

Uber driver Jake Trujillo is pushing for this to change.

He's behind a Facebook group called Uber Texoma that's encouraging more drivers to sign up so area residents who don't want to drive (or who don't have wheels) have a transportation option.

"We were a needed commodity to our community, and try to offer service that wasn't here," Trujillo said.

Uber currently serves a portion of Texoma including:

  • Bonham
  • Denison
  • Durant
  • Gainesville
  • Kingston
  • Madill
  • Marietta
  • Sherman

Ada, Ardmore, Atoka, Coalgate, Davis, Pauls Valley, Tishomingo and Sulphur are not included in Uber's service area.

Trujillo hopes getting more Uber drivers on the road will help reduce drunk driving. You can learn more about becoming an Uber driver on the app or website.
