Keeping your pets safe on the Fourth

Posted: Updated:

KINGSTON, Okla. -- The Independence Day holiday is notorious for seeing a rise in the number of stray animals.

Kingston Animal Control Officer Bernd Zell wants to remind you that animals get spooked by fireworks, so it's important to make sure pets are safe and sound.

"I suggest keep them in the house, put them on a chain or leash temporarily," he said. "I wouldn't recommend it on permanent."

Zell said the number of strays usually decreases once temperatures start to cool down.
