JOHNSTON COUNTY, Okla. -- Johnston County Commissioners all agree that the Greenwood low water crossing on Coatsworth Road is a problem that needs solving.

"There has been drownings and people swept off the swift water, so that's why we've decided to put it on our five-year bridge plan," said District 2 Commissioner Mike Thompson.

The $2.3 million project to build a new bridge won unanimous approval, but motorists will have to be patient.

"We still have to select engineers ... go through the selection process," Thompson said. "We have a five-year bridge plan, so it'll be a long time before something is done."

And while commissioners understand some enjoy the sight of the Blue River surging over the crossing, they've concluded that that public safety needs to be a higher priority.
