DENISON, Texas -- A Denison man was arrested Saturday in connection with the sexual assault of a child.

Grayson County deputies received a call about the incident at an address in the 200 block of Golf Walk Circle in the Fairway Estates subdivision.

Jeremy Mikel Stephenson, 30, was arrested for indecency with a child. Investigators said Stephenson had previously worked as a firefighter and a police officer, and occasionally played the drums at Real Life Church in Gainesville.

"It makes me sad," said neighborhood resident MarChessa Taylor. "We're kind of on the edge of any city, and so it's kind of a very unusual thing to have happen."

"In cases like this, the only way we can get a person to stop doing those types of things is to tell the stories of the victims and prevent that person from being out on the street," said sheriff's office spokeswoman Capt. Sarah Bigham.

Stephenson was freed on a $30,000 bond, but work continues to investigate his activities.

"We're just trying to nail down what jurisdictions he was in, and if there may be other victims in those jurisdictions as well," Bigham said.

Deputies encourage anyone with information to contact the Grayson County Sheriff's Office at 903-813-4200 extension 2243.
