DURANT, Okla. -- Durant City Manager Tim Rundel says he's not renewing his contract after this year.

Rundel, who has served in that position for two-and-a-half years, announced this week that he will be leaving after December.

He said he felt it was time for new management that will better meet the needs of Durant's new City Council.

"I will not be asking for a renewal of my contract, and at that point I thought it would be in their best interest for me to pursue another opportunity and let them pick a city manager that best suits their style," Rundel said.

He added that he will not be involved in the selection process for his successor, but wants to help make the transition as quickly as possible.

In April, Rundel announced that he was a candidate for the position of city manager in Norman, Oklahoma. Norman's City Council did not pick Rundel for that job.
