SHERMAN, Texas -- There's good news at the gas pump for Texoma motorists.

The price of petrol has been on the decline the past several weeks, and AAA reports the price for a gallon of regular grade in Texas now averages $2.44 a gallon.

That's six cents less than a week ago and 31 cents less than the same day last year.

In Oklahoma, a gallon is going for $2.50. The national average is $2.77.

"What you are going to see going into the future is that prices will be subject to less demand, therefore you won't get any pressure to drive prices up," explained Bill Douglass of Douglass Distributing, which delivers fuel and operates 22 gas stations.

Grayson County is seeing some of the lowest fuel prices in Texas, now averaging $2.28 a gallon, with a number of locations under $2.20.

And in case you were wondering, AAA reports the highest price ever for gasoline in Texas was $3.98 in July 2008.
