GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas -- You've probably seen tires, wood planks, coolers and even furniture along the highway.

Perhaps you've even had to attempt a high-speed swerve to avoid debris.

That's why the Texas Department of Transportation is urging drivers to secure any load before hitting the road.

"When you put something in the bed of your truck or trailer, you need to tie it down... even if you are only going a mile or two down the road," TxDOT spokesman Tim McAlavy said.

Drivers can face up to a $500 fine if troopers find that cargo has been insufficiently secured.
