ARDMORE, Okla. -- The Ardmore Boys & Girls Club is settling into a new, larger facility.

The Carter County chapter actually shut down one year ago. That's when the Boys & Girls Club of Durant stepped in to help.

"We have twelve different Boys & Girls Clubs across the Red River area, all the way to Arkansas," said director Larry Long. "We were going to come in here and take care of these kids, because lots of kids don't have a place to go after school and in the summer."

The organization had been operating out of Jefferson Elementary School during the spring, but the facility wasn't big enough for the task.

Long said a former church building on Maxwell Street proved to be a perfect match.

"We knew we were wanting to find a better place to serve more kids and keep them busy and off the streets and out of trouble, so we were able to acquire this new location --  this old church -- and it's a great opportunity for us," he said.

The new building features a kitchen, playground, classrooms, and a fellowship hall. It will be able to accommodate up to 200 kids.

"I'm super excited to be back in the Boys & Girls Club movement to serve the kids of this community," said area director Amy Miller. "I'm happy to see us grow, and excited to see what's going to happen to our community going forward."

The new Ardmore Boys & Girls Club location will open at 7:30 a.m. Monday.
