DENISON, Texas -- The Denison Independent School District is offering a Summer Feeding Program for students while classes are in recess.

The program kicked off Monday at Houston Elementary School and multiple other locations.

Meals are served to all children -- no matter what school they attend -- throughout the summer.

The program is hosted at different schools during the break; many campuses offering both breakfast and lunch.

DISD is also sending out buses with bagged lunches to local apartment complexes and parks around the city.

"The children get out of school, their parents are at work, maybe not home or income drops sometimes, and they are not able to get the free meals at school," explained food service director Debbie Hosford.

Kids 18 and under are eligible for a free meal. Call the Denison ISD Food Service at 903-462-7047 for more information or visit the district's website for a list of Summer Feeding Program locations.
