ARDMORE, Okla. -- Ardmore businesses are hoping that Memorial Day weekend will boost their bottom lines.

More people are expected to come through Ardmore during the three-day holiday, and it couldn't come at a better time for merchants. They've seen sales dip since the Main Street improvement project began and downtown streets become more difficult to navigate.

"We've had a very difficult time the last year-and-a-half," said vendor Irene Ledbetter. "It's been very difficult through the holidays."

The city is putting the finishing touches on the construction, and they're hoping it's complete in the next couple of weeks. With the new look, what had been a problem could soon become an asset.

"This year, people are going to make their way down here just to check out the new parking, check out the new area," said Hayden Hunt, manager at The Stag. "People haven't been in town since maybe last Memorial Day, and so it'll be good."
