DENISON, Texas -- The Denison Development Alliance has received a $125,000 budget increase for its Facade Grant Program.

The grant money aims to entice more business owners to renovate and restore historic buildings in the city's downtown district.

Because of the great demand for grant dollars, an update to the budget was needed.

"We have a vision of an entertainment district in downtown, and part of that is to preserve the history of downtown and remove all the facades where aluminum was put on there back in the 60s and 70s," DDA president Tony Kaai explained.

He added that about a half-dozen buildings are left to return to their original state.

The Facade Grant Program offers up to $2,000 in matching funds per address.
