SHERMAN, Texas -- A man who was crossing the street to get some food for his pregnant wife was stuck and killed by a passing car on Thursday night.

The driver of that car, Melissa Thompson, told investigators that the man stepped in front of her vehicle on Texoma Parkway.

She was arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

Randy Ernst, who worked with the victim, said he just trying to do a good deed when he was struck down.

"I'm going to get some flowers to put up here just in memory of him ... just so someone knows about it, and maybe some will watch out for it," Ernst said.

The victim was not named.

Thompson, 38, was jailed and released Friday morning after posting bond.
