Bryan County honors fallen officers

Posted: Updated:

DURANT, Okla. -- Law enforcement agencies from across Bryan County paused Thursday evening to honor fallen officers at a solemn ceremony.

The annual event organized by the local Fraternal Order of Police lodge recognizes Peace Officers Memorial Day, established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy.

Special tribute was paid to the 11 law enforcement officers in Bryan County who have died in the line of duty since records were kept.

Family and friends of those officers were invited to place a rose on the stage at Market Square.

Those who wear the badge say this is a very important event because it shows they will never forget what their fallen colleagues did for Texoma.

It is the 10th year for the Durant ceremony.
