Ardmore considers incentive for fire sprinklers

Posted: Updated:

ARDMORE, Okla. -- The City of Ardmore is looking to make downtown safer for business owners and shoppers.

The city is proposing a grant that would match up to $5,000 for fire suppression systems in downtown buildings. Sprinkler systems are expensive, so the grant's approval could make the difference in saving a life.

"All it's really meant to do is help the people get out safely," said Jessica Scott of Community Development Services. "It's not going to put out the fire, but it's  going to create a safe path. It's to save lives."

Before the grant can be approved, commissioners need to review the city's budget.
