SHERMAN, Texas -- Developers in Sherman are proposing a "fly-in" community adjacent to Sherman Municipal Airport.

The Silver Falcon development would be the first of its kind in Texoma, and could offer a boost for the local economy.

"It's a very very unique opportunity," said Mike McLendon, president of the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

The proposed 26-acre development plans to combine hangar space with homes, dining and entertainment.

"It's exciting for us to see that this could very well happen," McLendon said.

The Silver Falcon Aviation Community would include a number of single- and double-hangar spaces, 47 town homes and 15 condos, and a restaurant and event center.

"With the amount of property that's available there around the airport and adjacent to the airport... with the growth that's in the Sherman area along the US 75 corridor there... it lends itself to a great aviation flying community," McLendon said.

The city says the development would draw in revenue through property taxes on a private-public partnership, and while more revenue for the city is always good, the EAA said this is a sign for more interest in aviation for the future.

"There's a lot of people that like to be here because this is an aviation community," McLendon said.

If it passes city hurdles, we could see the fly-in development break ground as soon as this summer.
