DURANT, Okla. -- A memorial honoring those who paid the ultimate price in the Vietnam War is officially open in Durant.

The Wall That Heals is a traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.

Through the weekend, the wall will stand at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex as one of its 33 stops across the nation.

"It hits you hard, it really does," said Vietnam vet Charles Beach. "I saw the wall in D.C. two years ago. It makes you cry for knowing that there's 58,000 of your compadres, they're not here any more, and this is them. This is them. You can find them here."

Veterans and students from across Texoma were part of the crowd who visited the wall when it opened on Thursday morning.

"It's better for people who can't travel to Washington D.C.," said 6th grader Christopher Morrison.

"It's surreal," said Air Force veteran Stephen Cole. "It's honestly incredible."

The Wall That Heals will be open 24 hours a day until Sunday, and admission is free.

The exhibit also features a mobile education center with history about the Vietnam War.
