DURANT, Okla. -- Former Achille mayor David Northcutt was arrested Wednesday to face theft charges.

According to investigators, Northcutt had been in East Texas the past couple of days where no one could find him.

Police in Durant received a tip that Northcutt, 42, had been spotted at a bar on 2nd Avenue.

"That officer went into KC Roadhouse and made contact with him and he was arrested for the warrant," Detective Drew Hale said.

Northcutt is being held at the Bryan County jail on a $10,000 bond. He allegedly stole cash, drugs, and a cooler from Achille's police evidence room on March 18.

"I did make contact with David last night, and he did confirm that he was going to try to turn himself in today," Achille police Chief Stephen Isedeh said. "He took care of some affairs here in Durant, so I believe he did come out here to try to take care of those affairs, and by doing so he was apprehended by the Durant Police Department."

Northcutt's warrants allege grand larceny and false declaration of ownership to a pawn.

"I'd just like to thank the Durant Police Department, the DAs, investigators, Bryant County Sheriff's Office, OSBI, and all of the agencies involved that have been trying to help us in locating David and putting this behind us," Isedeh said.
