ARDMORE, Okla. -- Police are looking for a man who attempted to kidnap a female who was running near Ardmore High School on Sunday morning.

The 20-year-old victim told detectives she was forcefully grabbed from behind in the 800 block of Veterans Boulevard. The suspect pinned her arms at her sides and pulled her back.

"She yelled for him to stop, thinking it was someone she might've known at first, because who's going to grab you? It freaked her out," police Capt. Keith Ingle said. "When she turned around and broke his grasp, she noticed she didn't know who this gentleman was, and he took off."

The victim's father was parked nearby.

"Parents will take their kids out so they'll have a starting point, and they'll pick them up at their end point... just in case you fall, break an ankle, have a heat-related... or an incident like this, unfortunately," Ingle said.

Police reconstructed the movements of the suspect by examining surveillance video from nearby businesses and schools.

They said he drove a light metallic blue Dodge Challenger past the school and parked at the Chickasaw Nation center across the street shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday. The man -- described as a "short, slightly built black male"  who was wearing a gray shirt and blue shorts -- walked across Veterans Boulevard and started running to catch up with the victim.

After assaulting her, he is seen running back to his vehicle and driving away.

As a result of this incident, police are ramping up patrols near the high school.

"The school resource officers are also patrolling it during the daytime and school hours as well, and making more passes than they usually do," Ingle added.

Call dispatch at 580-223-1212 if you have any information about the suspect, or if you've seen a vehicle matching the provided description.
