Lake Texoma fish big enough to play basketball

Posted: Updated:

LAKE TEXOMA -- Been fishing lately?

Reeled in anything like this?

It's a 6'-9" alligator gar.

Zachary Sutterfield of Durant caught that 170-pound alligator gar while bow fishing in Lake Texoma over the weekend.

After catching the big fish, a biologist from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation was able to gather data from the creature.

Alligator gars are among the largest freshwater fish in North America, and they can grow to be as long as 10 feet!

The longest previous recorded catch of an alligator gar in Lake Texoma was 4'-6", according to a list updated earlier this month by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
