2 dead in Atoka County after SUV hits deer

ATOKA COUNTY, Okla. -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a deer on a road near Atoka triggered a deadly accident early Friday morning.

According to a report by Trooper Kevin Miller, a Kia sport utility vehicle being driven by 45-year-old Scott Miller of Atoka was traveling westbound on State Highway 7 near Carr Pen Road when he hit a deer around 3:45 a.m.

Scott Miller's SUV then swerved and struck an eastbound pickup truck driven by Delbert Byles, 59, of Milburn.

Both drivers were pinned in the wreckage. Byles died at the scene; Miller died later at a hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.
