DURANT, Okla. -- Durant City Manager Tim Rundel is one of six candidates now being considered for a similar position with the City of Norman, Oklahoma.

Rundel said it is an honor to be on that list, adding that he is looking forward to meeting with city personnel and a community panel in Norman this week.

"...my decision to apply for this position does not reflect in any way, shape or form dissatisfaction with my current city," Rundel said in a written statement. "My wife and I love Durant, and we discussed this opportunity thoroughly before I applied. Our son lives in Norman and Brandy does quite a bit of her commercial real estate work there as well."

Rundel has been Durant's city manager since 2016.

Norman, the state's third largest city, has a population of more than 123,000, almost seven times bigger than Durant.

Others being considered for the Norman city manager position include Ashley Mitchell, the deputy city manager of Addison, Texas, a Dallas suburb, and Sara Hensley, who heads the Austin Parks and Recreation department.
