ADA, Okla. -- Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested five people in two separate drug busts in Ada.

Deputies on routine patrol seized almost five pounds of marijuana and more than 30 grams of methamphetamine at the two locations along State Highway 3.

Two of the suspects were taken into custody during a traffic stop; the other three arrests followed execution of a search warrant.

"Deputies have been out patrolling and watching for individuals we have warrants for, and also following up on reports of drug activity in the county," Sheriff John Christian said.

The sheriff said he expects to see an increase in drug activity due to recent changes in the marijuana law.

"They're committing crimes so they can buy their drugs," Christian said. "Our focus is to protect life and property, and hopefully what we're doing is the proper thing that needs to be done."

Aside from the drugs, deputies also confiscated $5,000 in cash.
