DENISON, Texas -- Five people were injured Friday morning when Denison Independent School District bus pulled out in front of a car on a foggy highway.

None of the eight special needs students on the Route #20 bus was injured; all were wearing seat belts. The bus driver was taken to a hospital. One other adult on the bus was not hurt.

Two adults and two children in the car were hospitalized; the driver was said to have suffered a broken arm. All are expected to recover.

Police said the accident happened on State Highway 91 just south of FM 84. According to investigators, the driver of the car couldn't see the bus as it pulled out in front of it in thick fog. The sedan hit the center of the brand-new bus on the driver's side.

The students on the bus were taken to a nearby elementary school; from there they were transferred to their regular schools.

In a news release, Denison ISD said officials with its transportation department and Denison police were investigating the circumstances of the accident.

"We are very fortunate that the students are uninjured," Superintendent Dr. Henry Scott said in the statement. "Denison ISD would like to thank first responders for their prompt, professional response to the incident."
