SHERMAN, Texas -- Sherman and Denison are on a roll as economic growth is surging thanks to a bigger population, more retail options, restaurants, housing and more.

At Austin College on Thursday, the "Thinking Big, Thinking Future" symposium offered a platform to discuss rapid change.

"Local city managers and administrators manage growth in their cities, and -- of course -- both Sherman and Denison have been experiencing growth in the last few years, particularly with the northern migration of the growth in Collin County," said Sherman City Manager Robby Hefton.

With that movement to the north comes the opportunity for more jobs.  And Denison City Manager Dud Rex said this was the perfect time to talk with Austin College students about careers in public service and building for the future.

"Expose people interested in public administration to what some of the topics of what public administration are specific to growth and progress in a community," he said. "Really, just bring awareness to what's going on in the surrounding area."

The symposium was a chance to build even more for the future, and to show students what they can do to make it even brighter.
