MARSHALL COUNTY, Okla. -- The Marshall County Sheriff's Office issued an alert Tuesday morning after an attempted burglary near Kingston led to gunfire at a home in the 7000 block of Enos Road.

"Everything is kind of murky at this point, but it appears that the caretaker was checking on the property and surprised two burglars in the act," Marshall County Sheriff Danny Cryer said.

After spotting the intruders, the caretaker reportedly took matters into his own hands and shot a female suspect in the lower hip. Her male accomplice fled the scene.

"We've got Highway Patrol, Lighthorse police, and -- obviously -- the sheriff's office that are keeping all the roads in this area busy trying to locate the subject," Cryer said.

The sheriff's office called off the search late Tuesday afternoon because the suspect was no longer believed to be in the area.

The woman was airlifted to a hospital in Plano, Texas, for treatment. Her condition was not available.

The other burglary suspect was described as a white male wearing a black hoodie. The sheriff said they may have an idea about his identity.

"We haven't confirmed it yet," he said. "Hopefully once we get him into custody we can positively identify him."

The man is assumed to be armed and dangerous. Call the sheriff's office if you have any information about the suspect's whereabouts.
