SHERMAN, Texas -- The City of Sherman is finding ways to attract new business.

On Monday evening, the City Council approved a new committee aimed at recruiting retailers and restaurants. The group will operate separately from the Sherman Economic Development Corporation, which primarily focuses on bringing industry to the city.

The committee will focus some of its effort on attracting dining options based in Dallas and Frisco. They will be using the city's sales tax incentive program to help recruit new shopping and dining venues.

"This would be a tremendous opportunity for a grocery chain who pays significant dollars in sales tax revenue to see an incentive to come to Sherman," City Council member Shawn Teamann said.
