SHERMAN, Texas — An accomplice of the man convicted of killing a Sherman hotel clerk in 2017 has pleaded guilty for her role in the crime.

Karalyn Cross, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of murder in the death of Brandon Hubert, who was shot and killed during a robbery at the Quality Suites hotel on August 11, 2017.

The guilty plea means Cross will not face additional charges of capital murder and aggravated robbery. She could face up to 55 years behind bars when she is sentenced.

"In Texas, 60 years and above is a life sentence, because the parole eligibility is 30 years," Assistant District Attorney Kerye Ashmore said. "So she's really pleading within about two years of a life sentence on parole eligibility."

Cross testified that Reginald Campbell — who she met on a dating website — instructed her to go inside the hotel to provide surveillance before he murdered Hubert. Cross then drove the getaway car.

Last month, Campbell, 26, pleaded guilty to murder and agreed to serve a life sentence without parole.

A third person, Nikeya Grant, is also facing murder and robbery charges in connection with Brandon Hubert's death.
