SHERMAN, Texas -- Reginald Campbell, accused in the 2017 murder of Sherman hotel clerk Brandon Hubert, pleaded guilty on Friday.

Campbell, 26, agreed to a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

The plea agreement came before his case went to trial.

"We've had long discussions with the [Hubert] family, including today, and they were on board with a life without parole," said Grayson County Assistant District Attorney Kerye Ashmore. "Had the defendant not pled, I had told them that we would have a trial and seek the death penalty."

Brandon Hubert, 32, was shot and killed during a robbery at the Quality Suites hotel on U.S. 75 on August 11, 2017. Campbell eluded authorities for more than two months before he was traced to an apartment near New York City on October 13.

Two female accomplices, Karalyn Cross and Nikeya Grant, were also arrested in connection with the robbery and murder case. They are still awaiting trial.
