Trio sought after Van Alstyne shop robbed

Posted: Updated:

VAN ALSTYNE, Texas -- Van Alstyne police are searching for three suspects in connection with a business robbery in the 500 block of North Waco Street.

Investigators said three women in their 20s or 30s entered the Bluebonnet Floral & Gift Shop Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. Owner Maria Perperidis said two of the women kept her busy in the back looking at flowers while the third allegedly stole nine debit and credit cards from the owner's purse.

"They were asking different questions, and they were kind of all talking at once, so my attention was divided," she said.

The women made a small purchase and then left the store.

Perperidis notified police and then used a Facebook post to alert other small business owners in the area.

"I didn't have any cash in the register," she said. "I know they were very attentive when I opened the register to see, and I know other people do deal in cash, and they should just be more vigilant and be aware."

Police say the three women later tried to use the cards at the Sherman Walmart. Investigators are trying to obtain surveillance video to help them identify the suspects.

Perperidis said this was her first brush with crime in the two years her shop has been open.

"I don't have cameras here right now," she said. "I'm installing them tomorrow, because I just want to prevent anything else from happening, and if something does -- God forbid, happen -- I want to be able to catch the people who did it."
