SHERMAN, Texas -- A bomb squad and hazardous materials team were called to investigate a suspicious envelope at the Sherman office of U.S. Rep. John Ratcliffe on Thursday.

The Grayson County Sheriff's Office said Ratcliffe was not in the office when the mail was delivered.

After an examination by the hazardous materials unit of the Plano Police Department, the envelope was determined not to be hazardous.

"Investigators have determined that no further threat exists at this time," the sheriff's office said in a written statement, adding that the person who delivered the mail has been identified.

The courthouse was not evacuated while the mail was being inspected.
