ANNA, Texas -- Wet weather in the forecast has changed plans to shut down U.S. 75 between Sherman and McKinney this weekend.

The entire highway will be shut down near Anna at the intersection of FM 455. Austin Road and Bridge will be finishing up construction for a traffic pattern switch to bring all traffic onto new pavement

The original plan was to close down U.S. 75 at 9 p.m. Friday, but contractors have now postponed the shutdown until noon on Saturday. The closure is expected to continue through much of the day on Sunday.

Anna police spokesman Lt. Jeff Caponera said the changes will help make the highway a little safer.

"That'll actually alleviate a lot of congestion along the highway there, because it opens it up to three lanes," he said. "Once you get beyond that 455 corridor, it opens up to three lanes and then eventually to four lanes once you get beyond Melissa."

Anna police said they will have officers on duty to help control traffic.

Motorists should consider using an alternate north-south route like State Highway 289 to the west or State Highways 160 and 121 to the east.
