OKLAHOMA CITY -- A teacher pay raise and more school options for parents were just some of the goals Oklahoma House Speaker Charles McCall laid out Tuesday at the State Capitol.

The priorities of the Republican speaker surprised some, with House Democrats saying they didn't expect the first priority of the 2019 legislative session to include another pay hike.

Oklahoma is expected to have an $8.2 billion budget and more than a $500 million surplus this year.

Although McCall called for the pay raises, he failed to specify how they would be paid for.
